So I’ve been off tumblr for a while…
And it seems in that time some people I know in the real world started following my tumblr, though tumblr failed to inform me of this as requested. So apologies if I actually know you and haven’t been following your blog, I think I just now rectified all cases but if I missed you somehow, let me know!

My blog just turned 2!
(Everything above this line courtesy of Tumblr providing me a link in an email, which is pretty awesome! Thanks for the reminder, Tumblr. If not for you telling me, the anniversary would’ve gone by unobserved.)
Are Tumblrtines not happening this year?
I’ve been a bit AWOL recently, but I remembered the Tumblrtine fun of last year and wondered why I’m not seeing a bar above my dashboard inviting me to send some this year. I suppose the whole message capability thing makes it a bit moot, but the “cards” last year were cute and I’d send one/some again this year if they were available.
Ask away!
I posted this at far too nocturnal a time originally, though I did still get a couple good questions even at that hour. But I figured I’d throw it out there again during normal browsing time for anyone that has a regular-ish schedule and doesn’t happen to be on tumblr at 2:30am (Pacific time).
Questions? Ask away!
Might this be the end of formspring for tumblrs?

Aww, look! Tumblr cares about my feelings. Little things like this make me smile and really set this site apart from others.
I got my Tumblr Secret Santa gift today, and my santa, Donna, knocked it out of the park! The package was pretty, there was a nice card inside to explain all the gifts, and Donna even thought to tell me in the card when to stop reading and open the presents. :) She sent gourmet scented colored pencils for me to use in my art journal, The Office themed notepads since I’m obviously obsessed with the show, and an awesome hummingbird necklace that she deduced I would love based on all my posts about necklaces!
Donna, thank you so much! Your gifts are spot on and so fun! Plus now I have a great new tumblr to follow on top of it, which is like a fourth gift.
omg…Windycitygirl, you went above and beyond. xkcd, exploding dog, CALVIN AND HOBBES!!! A trifecta of comic awesomeness that now belongs to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I love the tracks on the CD too.
Yay! I’m SO glad you liked it! And even better, I can start following you now without ruining the surprise! :D
Reblogged from Part Miracle, Part Madness

Just realized that I never posted a picture of the art piece I made for Tumblr Secret Santa this year, so here’s a cell phone shot of it. My draw had a lot of comics posted on her blog and her favorite colors are blue and purple, so it inspired me to make this for her (on a canvas sturdy enough to withstand shipping). I also sent along a CD of songs I was particularly fond of this year and a couple non-traditional Christmas tunes to keep with the spirit of the season but avoid the expected. I hope she likes it!
Absence makes the heart grow fonder?
Apologies for having been kind of AWOL recently. I’ve been so busy seeing/performing in improv shows, reading books for my other blog, Christmas shopping, making a gift for the Tumblr Secret Santa Exchange, and getting ready to go home for the holidays that I haven’t had much time for my digital life. Miss you Tumblr, but hope to be back to my regular use soon!

I have a new button and it seems to serve the purpose of downloading the photo from the post the button’s on. This button is not, however, on all of my photo posts. Puzzling.
EDIT: Because I didn’t click beyond the little camera button, I didn’t realize until today that what it actually does is let you reply to the post with a picture of your own. I thought my computer was prompting me to tell it where to save the picture from the post when it was actually asking me to choose my own to upload. I actually find this option even stranger than what I originally thought the button did.
- me: I see your tumble.
- James: You do? Do you raise me a tumble?
Just now as I was reading through my dash, it occurred to me that I haven’t logged into my old livejournal account in who knows how long, so I opened a new window and did so out of curiosity whether it would still be there or if it would’ve been suspended for non-use. It’s still there, and I clicked around a little bit, looking at old friends’ blogs, but it didn’t take long for me to get bored and log out. When I came back to my Tumblr window, the “Sorry, an error has occurred” screen was where my dashboard had been!
Don’t worry, Tumblr. There’s no need to be jealous. I still love you best of all.
I’m seeing “please” turn up in a lot of these tumblr clouds. What a polite bunch we tumblrs can be!
Thinking more about the new contact lookup feature, I just sent the following email to support
Hi guys,
I just wanted to let you know that I have some concerns about the new
feature that lets people look up tumblrs through the contacts in their
email. Your privacy policy indicates that you won’t disclose private
information to users or third parties, and the email I created my
tumblr with happens to be personal information: my name. I’m very
uncomfortable with the idea that anybody I’ve contacted from my email
for any reason would be able to find my blog so easily now. I
purposefully keep my name and “real” contact info off my tumblr, but
this new lookup tool makes that moot. I realize the simple solution
here is to change the email I use to sign into tumblr, but I also want
to point out that there was no warning before the feature was
implemented, so it’s potentially already revealed me to people without
my knowledge or consent.
I appreciate all the hard work you guys put into the site and realize
that implementing new features is always done with user benefit in
mind, but I think this is one that may not, in the end, be in the best
interest of your users. I understand that it might not be possible on
a user to user basis, but I’d like to request an opt-out of this
feature that would block my email from returning my tumblr in a
contact search. In the meantime, I’ll be changing the email listed on
my account as a damage control measure rather than a precautionary
measure, which I feel is an option I should have had in the first
place.
Respectfully,
